Help Solicited -- Mailing to Japan

One of my auctions which ended yesterday was won by a Japanese person. I list on my auctions that I ship worldwide, so this isn't a problem in and of itself. The person sent a very polite and friendly e-mail asking for it to be shipped insured and trackable. S/He appears to be really new to ebay and may not realize what this will be doing to the price -- the best I could find for insured was $18.10 for an auction which didn't even make it to $5.00. The person only has one other feedback from an Australian, so I can't ask the seller what method s/he used (well, I could, but it wouldn't help much insomuch as I'm not mailing from Australia).

Anyway, here's what I've found so far: $18.10 for airmail parcel post, which would be insured, but gives no option offering tracking. It also doesn't indicate that tracking comes with th price, and in my experience it doesn't. Also from USPS is global express for $21.00, which includes insurance. Again, nothing about tracking possibly being part of the service and no tracking add-ons offered.

The other options are UPS, with $41.50 being the best price I could find. Insurance is included and I'm fairly certain they track. There's also FedEx for $40.75. Last but not least, apparently FedEx priority would cost less than their saver, to the tune of $30.15. The one thing with FedEx is that last time I shipped I went to a customer counter and was charged something like $11.00 extra (the shipping itself was about $5.00) for the privelege of using the shipper. I'm very wary of losing that much money again.

If you have experience in the matter (or know something I don't, such as whether global express is tracked), please let me know. Thank you in advance!
